Actor Vijay unveiled the flag and symbol of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), during a ceremony at the party office in Chennai on August 22. The event, which was also attended by Vijay's parents, saw the actor join party workers and leaders in taking a pledge, emphasizing their commitment to the principles of equality and justice.
Vijay vowed to work towards eliminating caste, religious, gender, and regional disparities. He emphasized his dedication to creating awareness among people and striving for equal opportunities and rights for all.
"We will always appreciate the fighters who fought and sacrificed their life for the liberation of our country and countless soldiers who fought tirelessly for the rights of our people from Tamil soil. I will remove the differences in the name of caste, religion, gender, place of birth, create awareness among the people and strive for equal opportunities and equal rights for all. I solemnly affirm that I will uphold the principle of equality for all living beings," reads the pledge.
In a statement released a day earlier, Vijay described August 22, 2024, as a “great blessing” and a pivotal moment in history. He expressed his excitement about the introduction of the TVK flag, which he believes will become a powerful symbol for Tamil Nadu. "It is a great blessing if every day is a new direction and a new force in history. 22nd August 2024 is the day that God and nature have given us as such a blessing. It is the day when the flag, the main symbol will be introduced." "Working for the welfare of Tamil Nadu, we will introduce our heroic flag, the victory flag, which will become the symbol of our state, tomorrow at our headquarters and release the associated flag song," the release added.
On February 2 this year, Vijay announced the formation of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The actor plans to fully transition into politics after completing his final film project, "Thalapathy 69", which is expected to wrap up by February 2025. Vijay is focused on building TVK’s grassroots infrastructure over the next two years.
He had said his primary goal is to secure a victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, aiming to effect significant political change in the state. It remains unclear whether Vijay intends to run for the Tamil Nadu Assembly seat under his party's banner.
Since unveiling TVK, Vijay has been actively involved in community outreach. He has honored top-performing students from 10th and 12th grades to build support among young voters and their families. Vijay has also voiced his stance on various issues, including advocating for the cancellation of NEET, criticizing the DMK government's handling of the Kallakurichi liquor tragedy, and opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019 for its potential impact on social harmony.

On the cinema front, Vijay’s latest film, "The Greatest Of All Time" is set to be released on September 5. "Thalapathy 69" to be directed by H Vinoth, will be his final movie before he fully dedicates himself to his political career.
