Supreme Court to review Section 377, seeks Centre's response

The apex court also issued a notice to the Centre seeking a response on a writ petition filed by five members of the LGBT community.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court will review the controversial Section 377 that criminalised consensual sex between homosexual citizens.

The bench is headed by the Chief Justice of India and will determine the constitutional validity of the act.

This is the first development in this case after the SC had overturned a High Court verdict in December 2013 that had decriminalized homosexuality.

According to ANI, the apex court also issued a notice to the Centre seeking a response on a writ petition filed by five members of LGBT community.

The members of the community  said they fear police action because of their natural sexual preferences.
