The Kapur family inheritance battle saw yet another twist on Tuesday when the lawyer representing Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, launched a blistering attack on Priya Sachdev, widow of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, calling her “an acute gambler" in Delhi High Court.
Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani questioned the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur's will and said before Justice Jyoti Singh, “The lady is an acute gambler, good luck to her."
Jethmalani told the court that the document in question could not have been prepared, read, or approved by Sunjay Kapur, citing what he described as “serious infirmities" in its drafting and execution, according to a report by News18.
“When you get ‘she’ and ‘her’ wrong in four different places, a man like Sunjay Kapur, with his education and reputation, wouldn’t have signed it," he argued. “A will with such errors would have ruined his reputation."
Jethmalani, on behalf of Karisma Kapoor's children, questioned the validity of the will. The senior lawyer also questioned why Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, was excluded from the list of beneficiaries.
On Monday, the Delhi High Court resumed hearing the plea by Karisma’s children. Jethmalani claimed that the will had been forged to 'disinherit' Sunjay's children from his marriage to Karisma. He claimed that the will was “fabricated” and riddled with “glaring blunders”.
Earlier on October 9, the children’s counsel had described Priya Sachdev as a “Cinderella stepmother", alleging she mistreated them while securing a dominant share of the estate.
All about Sunjay Kapur's estate caseSunjay Kapur, the chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading auto parts manufacturer, died in June in London while playing a polo match. His cause of death was later revealed to be a heart attack. Sunjay was married to Karisma from 2003-16. They have two kids together. Sunjay married Priya in 2017.
Kiaan and Samara, Sunjay and Karisma's kids, have sued Priya in the Delhi High Court for allegedly forging their father's will and excluding them from his over Rs 30,000-crore estate. Meanwhile, Priya later moved court that she be allowed to disclose her late husband's assets to the court in a sealed cover, and not publicly.
