The turbulence inside Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family escalated sharply on Sunday, a day after Rohini Acharya’s dramatic announcement that she was cutting all ties with the household. What began as a single outburst has now widened into a full-blown family rupture, with three more daughters of the RJD patriarch leaving the Patna residence.

Rajlakshmi, Ragini and Chanda quietly departed from 10 Circular Road early Monday morning, taking their children and heading to Delhi. Their move, according to people familiar with the situation, reflects deep distress triggered by the events of the past week, a period marked by both political humiliation and personal conflict within Bihar’s most prominent political clan.

The RJD is already in shock after its heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, where its strength plummeted from 75 seats to just around 25. The internal crisis exploded soon after the results, when Rohini Acharya, Lalu’s Singapore-based daughter and a doctor, announced she was walking away from politics and distancing herself from her family entirely.

In a series of emotional posts, Rohini on Saturday alleged she had been subjected to abuse and even physically threatened during an altercation involving two of Tejashwi Yadav’s closest aides, Sanjay Yadav, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, and Rameez, a long-time confidant. She said she had been “torn away from her family”, left her parents “crying”, and had been accused of having “taken crores” after she donated a kidney to Lalu Prasad, a charge she described as deeply offensive.
