Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a 77-feet-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt in South Goa on Thursday, a representative of the mutt said.
The prime minister is scheduled to arrive at the venue at 3.45 pm. “A special helipad has been constructed in the premises of the mutt,” the central committee chairperson, Shrinivas Dempo, said.
The prime minister will unveil the 77-foot statue of Shree Ram, he added.
The statue has been sculpted by Ram Sutar, the artist behind Gujarat’s Statue of Unity, Goa PWD minister Digambar Kamat said. “This would be the tallest statue of Shree Ram in the world,” he noted.
Before addressing a public gathering, Modi will visit the temple at the mutt, Dempo said.
Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union minister Shripad Naik and state cabinet ministers are expected to attend the ceremony.
The event is part of a series of programmes being held from November 27 to December 7 to mark 550 years of the mutt tradition. Dempo said the mutt premises in Partagal village, built 370 years ago, will see a footfall of 7,000 to 10,000 people every day during the celebrations.
Kamat added that the mutt, a long-standing spiritual centre, has been “completely refurbished and given a modern look.”
