The Prime Minister took to microblogging site X to congratulate President Putin. He also said he is looking forward to further fortify bilateral ties between the two nations and keep working ahead on the"time-tested special & privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia ".

President Vladimir Putin secured an unprecedented victory in Russia's post-Soviet election on March 17, solidifying his control over the country. Despite thousands of dissenters gathering for a midday demonstration at polling sites and Western nations criticising the fairness of the vote, Putin's dominance remained unchallenged.
Earlier, on March 10, a CNN report, citing senior government officials, claimed that without PM Modi's intervention, Russia could have initiated a nuclear attack on Ukraine. Allegedly, Russia had been diligently preparing for a potential nuclear strike on Kyiv in 2022.
