Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Viksit Bharat is the goal of every Indian and the focus should be on one goal — to make Bharat Viksit by 2047. He was chairing Niti Aayog's 10th Governing Council meeting in the capital on Saturday. Speaking to the dignitaries present, he said, "We should focus on one goal, to make Bharat Viksit by 2047. We should have the aim of making each State Viksit, each city Viksit, each Nagar Palika Viksit and each village Viksit. If we work on these lines, we will not have to wait till 2047 to become Viksit Bharat."
"Viksit Bharat is the goal of every Indian. When every state is Viksit, then Bharat will be Viksit. This is the aspiration of its 140 crore citizens," he said, adding that in order to achieve the goal, "We have to increase the speed of development. If the Centre and all the States come together and work together like Team India, no goal is impossible."
"We should focus on one goal, to make Bharat Viksit by 2047. We should have the aim of making each state Viksit, each city Viksit, each Nagar Palika Viksit and each village Viksit. If we work on these lines, we will not have to wait till 2047 to become Viksit Bharat," PM added.
Focusing on tourism, PM said that states should develop at least one tourist destination per state which are at par with global standards and by providing all facilities and infrastructure. "One State: One Global Destination. It would also lead to development of the neighbouring cities as tourist places," he opined.
Talking about rapid urbanisation, the Prime Minister said that India is getting rapidly urbanized, and "We should work towards future ready cities. Growth, innovation and sustainability should be the engine for the development of our cities."
PM also stressed on the need to 'Nari Shakti, and the need to include more women in India's workforce. "We must work towards inclusion of women in our work force. We must make laws, policies so that they can be respectfully integrated in the workforce," PM told the gathering.
"We should work in a manner so that policies implemented bring change in the lives of common citizens. Only when people feel the change, it strengthens the change and transforms the change into a movement. We have a great opportunity as a team to fulfil the aspirations of 140 crore people," he added.
The theme of this Governing Council meeting is 'Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047'.
The council, the apex body of Niti Aayog, includes all state chief ministers, lieutenant governors of Union Territories, and several Union ministers. Prime Minister Modi is the chairman of Niti Aayog.
It is the first major meeting of the prime minister with chief ministers of all states and lieutenant governors of Union Territories after Operation Sindoor.
"In line with his commitment to take all the states together as 'Team India' for a Viksit Bharat, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will chair the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog on May 24, 2025. "...the Governing Council Meeting will discuss the approach on Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat @2047," Niti Aayog had said in a statement earlier.
According to the statement, the idea of Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat is a call for states to craft bold, long-term, and inclusive vision documents aligned with national priorities yet grounded in local realities. "These visions must include time-bound targets," it had said.
Generally, the full council meeting happens every year, and last year, it was held on July 27.
The first meeting of the council took place on February 8, 2015.
