The regional meteorological centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for Mumbai, Raigad and Thane for today (September 4), with "heavy to very heavy rains" at isolated places.

Western Railway: Suburban Services restored betweenChurchgate and Virar (except slow corridor between Churchgate andAndheri due to water logging near Mahim).

Traffic on slow corridor in the section to also be resumed soon.

Due to heavy rain and water logging,approx 150 suburban services were cancelled.

145 BMC schools provide temporary shelter to harried commuters




In the wake of hundreds of commuters stranded at railway stations due to incessant rains in Mumbaion September 4, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has converted 145 civic-run schools into temporary shelter homes for them.

Train services were badly affected due to water loggings on railway tracks at Bhandup, Mankhurd, Vikroli, Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar and Kurla stations on the Central line and Mahim and Matunga on the Western line, an official said.

Intermittent light to moderate rain will continue over Santacruz, Navi Mumbai ,Vasai, Ulhas Nagar, Kalyan, Panvel, Thane and Alibag during next 2-4 hours. Rain may intensify thereafter. Water logging would disrupt the traffic at many places, Skymet Weather has reported.
