More than 50 percent account-holders in the Jan Dhan Yojana scheme are women, according to a report by consulting firm MicroSave.

MicroSave released a report on Wednesday titled “The State of the Agent Network, India 2017” which states that cash-in, cash-out volumes have seen a jump of 200 percent between 2015 and 2017.

The average daily transactions in the country have increased by 140 percent to 31 in 2017 from 13 in 2015 with the agents offering a number of other services such as linking Aadhaar to bank accounts, bill payments, insurance registration, balance enquiry, pension registration, bank account opening and other services.

The report said that the number of women banking agents in the country is a paltry 8 percent of which 71 percent are located in rural areas.

The survey noted that State Bank of India has the largest number of agents in the country with a 38 percent market share in 2017.

Inaugurating the "State of the Agent Network" report, Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian said that providing essential goods and services to citizens was only the first policy step towards financial inclusion, according to a report in Zee News.

He further said "one of the aims of the government policy is ensuring provision of essential goods and services. That is, of course, the first step to develop fiscal provision into something real and meaningful".
