Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Friday that his government’s primary focus in this term will be on delivering "good governance." Speaking at Mumbai Tech Week 2025, he also outlined plans to position Mumbai as a thriving hub for start-ups, alongside Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
“We have consistently focused on delivering good governance. Maharashtra is one state which is always on an auto pilot mode. The governance therefore has to be efficient, accountable and it has to have integrity,” Fadnavis said.
He also emphasised how his administration will differ this time from the previous term. “My first term between 2014 and 2019 was largely dedicated to water conservation and improving infrastructure. Now, we have to move forward. Infrastructure will always be a focus area. However, apart from that, more focus will be on technology because artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way of governance and every sphere of our lives and we have to catch it very early,” the chief minister stated.
The focus of the BJP-led Mahayuti government will be on driving a technological revolution, as technology has the power to accelerate our growth, he said.
“Our focus in this regime will be more on technology. We want to use more technology into agriculture to be able to bring sustainability,” Fadnavis said.
“With the infrastructure we have built, Mumbai is becoming more accessible and affordable,” said Fadnavis, adding that the Atal Setu has played a key role in linking Navi Mumbai to Mumbai, transforming Navi Mumbai into a major attraction.
“Today, most of the tech players are coming in New Mumbai because it has airport, ease of living, has natural area as well. We are creating thematic cities there. It is also our data centre capital because India’s 65 per cent data centre capacity is created in New Mumbai,” he pointed.
The chief minister informed that the state’s first M-Hub is nearing completion. It will serve as an incubator, fostering new start-ups.
“In Navi Mumbai, we aim to develop ample, affordable spaces that can compete with those in other cities,” he said.
The start-up capital is now Maharashtra, Fadnavis said pointing towards a report. Around 30 per cent of our start-ups belong to the technology sector, he added.
