Telangana's Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is marking his 71st birthday today, with celebrations being held across the state. BRS leaders and supporters have organised various service activities to commemorate the occasion.

However, the atmosphere turned tense late Sunday night as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) began removing flexi banners and flags put up by the party's supporters in the city. The GHMC's actions were reportedly in line with special orders from the Congress government, leading to protests from BRS ranks, Telangana Today reported.

On Monday, GHMC staff, including Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel, continued dismantling the flexis that had been put up by BRS supporters, causing a stir among party workers.

BRS leaders accused the authorities of acting selectively, alleging that banners and posters belonging to leaders of other political parties were left untouched. The removals sparked heated exchanges between municipal staff and BRS workers, escalating tensions in several parts of the city.

GHMC officials defended their actions, stating they were following government directives and urged BRS supporters not to interfere with their work. Despite this, the removal of banners and flags continued to provoke outrage among KCR’s supporters. Videos of the confrontations between BRS leaders and GHMC staff spread rapidly on social media, with many netizens criticising the selective nature of the removals.
