    Congress could get 20 portfolios; JD(S) could get finance, PWD

    While the details will emerge only after HD Kumaraswamy meets Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi today, a report by The Times of India suggest that Congress will get 20 berths in the 33-member state cabinet.

    In addition to the CM’s post, JD(S) is expected to keep key portfolios such as finance, PWD and irrigation.

    Atmosphere of dejection prevails, people feeling let down by government: Yashwant Sinha

    An atmosphere of dejection was prevailing among the people of the country, who were feeling let down by the unfulfilled promises made by the government, former Union minister Yashwant Sinha said on Sunday, according to a PTI report.

    Sinha, who quit the BJP recently alleging that there was a "threat" to democracy under the current dispensation led by the party, hit out at the Narendra Modi government over a number of issues at a "meet-the-press" programme.

    Kumaraswamy to meet Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi today

    HD Kumaraswamy will be meeting former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi today to discuss the modalities of government formation.

    Kumaraswamy on Sunday clarified that no discussion had been taken on allocation of ministries. He also rejected reports which suggested that there was a power-sharing formula of 30 months each between the two parties, as "bogus". Kumaraswamy is expected to be sworn-in as the chief minister at the Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday, May 23.

    MK Stalin, Kumaraswamy on same page over Cauvery

    DMK working president MK Stalin on Sunday batted for 'cordial ties' with the new government which will assume power in Karnataka and asked the AIADMK regime to work for a solution to the Cauvery issue through talks.

    Subsequently JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy too favoured bilateral talks to solve the issue, according to a PTI report.

    Cordial ties should be created with the new government and a solution hammered out through talks, Stalin said at a function at Nagapattinam district

    "Though we have got a legal victory, water to the necessary extent should be received and farmers should be provided with that," he said.

    If farmers were not provided with water for irrigation, DMK would steer protests to get it, he said.

    TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu likely to attend Kumaraswamy's swearing-in ceremony

    Apparently unfazed by speculation that his Telugu Desam Party may join hands with the Congress in future, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to attend the swearing-in of HD Kumaraswamy as the chief minister of Karnataka on Wednesday.

    Naidu's cabinet colleagues have suggested that he attend the ceremony given his closeness to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, a statement from the party said on Sunday, according to a PTI report.

    The TDP chief discussed the issue with ministers though teleconference. He said Kumaraswamy had invited him for the function.

    As many as eight VVPATs were found from the house of a labourer in Vijayapura, Karnataka on Sunday, said Police. "We have seized 8 VVPATs without batteries from the house of a labourer in Vijayapura. A case has been registered, investigation will be conducted," Police told news agency ANI.

    Chief Election Officer Karnataka also confirmed this. "Eight covers of VVPATs were found from a shed in Bijapur district. Labourers were using the cover as box to keep their clothes. DC is on the spot, we are verifying further facts. There is no machine there," said Chief Election Officer Karnataka, as per the news agency.

    Kumaraswamy hits back at Rajinikanth for comments on Cauvery issue

    Joining issue with actor Rajinikanth over his comments on release of Cauvery water by Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, JD(S) leader and Karnataka CM designate HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday invited him to come to the state and see the situation for himself, after which he would change his stand.

    He was responding to a question about the reported statement by the actor-politician in Chennai asking the new government in Karnataka to release to Tamil Nadu its share of Cauvery river water as mandated by the Supreme Court verdict.

    Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Sunday said the 'game plan' and 'machinations' of the BJP in Karnataka had been nullified by the MLAs belonging to the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) through their firm and strong unity in the state, as per news agency PTI.
    Talking to reporters here, Narayanasamy said the BJP could not succeed in its strategies in Karnataka as the legislators of the Congress and JD (S) were too firm to be lured by any means and defeated the attempts of the BJP to encourage defection.
