Citing personal reasons, senior Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Sunday resigned as party spokesperson. In an official release, the party announced the appointment of JDU leader Rajiv Prasad Ranjan as its national spokesperson.
While the party has said KC Tyagi took the decision for "personal reasons", the development is being seen as a response to kC Tyagi's statements on key issues that did not go down well with the BJP leadership.
The BJP has been reaching out to its allies to ensure coordination and maintain harmony within the ruling National Democratic Alliance, aiming to dispel reports of differences within the bloc.
"The National President of Janata Dal (United), Shri Nitish Kumar (Chief Minister, Bihar) has appointed Shri Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the National Spokesperson. Shri K.C. Tyagi, who is in the party on the post of spokesperson, has resigned from the post of party spokesperson due to personal reason," the JDU has said in a statement.
Tyagi has been a Rajya Sabha member representing Bihar and has also held the position of chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on industry. Previously, he was a member of the ninth Lok Sabha and served as chairman of both the committee on papers laid on the table and the central warehousing corporation. Tyagi began his political career in 1974 and made his first attempt at the Lok Sabha elections in 1984, contesting from the Hapur-Ghaziabad constituency.
