After witnessing intense cross-border shelling, drone attacks and aerial invasions for close to 100 hours, India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an “understanding” about stopping “military action” and “firing”.
Soon after the cessation of firing and military action between New Delhi and Islamabad was announced on Saturday (May 10) evening, cross-border firing from Pakistan was reported at several locations along the border regions.
This round of India-Pak hostilities began nearly 20 days ago - with the terror attack in South Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 people, mostly civilians, were killed.
Here's a timeline of the latest round of intense confrontation between India and Pakistan
April 22 – Pahalgam terror attack. Terrorists launched a barbaric attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, killing 26 tourists and injuring several more.
April 23 – India suspends Indus Waters Treaty. Following which, Pakistan violated ceasefire. Resolute diplomatic announcements made by New Delhi, including the Indus Water Treaty put in abeyance and cancellation of Visas. Pakistan began ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), increasing cross-border tensions.
May 7 – Operation Sindoor. The Indian Army launched a precision attack, Operation Sindoor, on terrorist launchpads in Pakistan on the night of May 6-7 at 1:04 am. The attack destroyed multiple sites used for terror planning.
May 8 (night) – Pakistan strikes with swarm drones & artillery. On the night of May 8, Islamabad targeted multiple Indian positions in key border states using swarm drones and heavy artillery. India successfully thwarted all attacks and retaliates with strong counterstrikes.
May 9 – India retaliates by attacking the Pakistani air defence system. Indian Armed Forces, in retaliation, destroyed Pakistan’s HQ-9B air defence system in Lahore.
May 9 (Night) – Pakistan’s major assault. Pakistan launches another wave of swarm drones, loitering munitions, and Fatah missile targeting 26 locations along the western border.
May 9 (Late Night) – India’s massive counterstrike. Indian Army strikes back with full force on multiple Pakistani locations, including Sialkot, the International Border (IB) and several LoC sectors.
May 10 (Morning) – IAF hits Pakistani air bases. Indian Air Force destroys eight major Pakistani air bases (including in Islamabad) and damages 8 more, including airstrips at Skardu, Bolari, and Sargodha.
May 10 (Noon)– Crucial diplomatic intervention. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks with the Prime Ministers and National Security Advisers of both India and Pakistan urging restraint.
May 10 (late afternoon)– DGMO Pakistan initiated contact. Pakistani DGMO reaches out to the Indian side for direct military-level communication.
May 10 (early evening) – Ceasefire announced. India officially declares a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after direct talks.
