Captain Geetika Koul carved her name in military history on December 5 by becoming the first woman medical officer of the Indian Army to be deployed at the world’s highest battlefield: Siachen Glacier in Ladakh.
Siachen Glacier is also the largest glacier in India and the second-largest in the world.
Koul was initially part of the Snow Leopard Brigade of the Indian Army. Later she completed her induction programme at the Siachen Battle School. The training programme at the Siachen Battle School is extremely tough. A candidate has to undergo preparation in high-altitude acclimatisation, special medical procedures and survival techniques.
