In a first, Bengaluru traffic police’s annual fine collection crosses Rs 200 crore

“Many people utilised the 50 percent discount to clear their pending fines this year. We are now focusing on three major violations - signal jumping, wrong-side driving, and no-parking offences,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru Traffic) Karthik Reddy told Moneycontrol.

Sources said the spike in fine collection has also come as a relief for the cash-strapped state government, which is mobilising funds for the guarantee schemes. The entire amount collected by the traffic police is deposited into the government treasury.

Data shows that riding without a helmet continues to dominate the list of offences this year. According to enforcement statistics, rider-helmet violations alone accounted for 15.85 lakh cases, while pillion riders without helmets made up another 8.71 lakh cases - together forming nearly half of all traffic offences recorded in 2025. Other major violations included not wearing seat belts (5.46 lakh cases), wrong parking (7.11 lakh), and jumping traffic signals (5.11 lakh).

Bengaluru traffic police have been increasingly relying on automated systems and e-challans, significantly reducing manual enforcement. In 2024, of the 82.9 lakh cases booked, 78 lakh (94 percent) were through contactless enforcement. Similarly, till October 2025, 45 lakh of the 51.8 lakh (87%) cases were registered through automated means.

According to the transport department, Bengaluru has 1.2 crore vehicles, including 82.8 lakh two-wheelers and 23.8 lakh cars.
