Flashback 2018: These feel-good stories of the year gone by will lift your spirits

India has progressed in the last year on many fronts. From legislations that left people shedding tears of joy to women making India proud in sports battlegrounds, here is a list of events that will make you nostalgic about the year that went by.

Section 377 verdict | Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which used to criminalise homosexuality was read down by the Supreme Court of India on September 6, 2018. The then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, in a landmark judgment, decriminalised homosexuality in India, giving the LGBTQI community a reason to rejoice.

In the past, Saina Nehwal had reached the finals of 2011 World Super Series Finals, while Jwala Gutta and V Diju finished runners-up at the 2009 edition. Sindhu was also named the seventh highest paid athletes on the Forbes list in 2018.

The space agency started the year by launching its hundredth satellite into space and ended it by launching a rocket with 31 satellites on it. 2019 could be an even more exciting year for ISRO with Chandrayaan-2 and Mangalyaan in the pipeline.

Not only did they present a distribution opportunity to the regional cinema, but they also contributed to the revenue of mainstream films that made it to theatres this year. India has the second largest online video viewing audience and it is expected to reach 500 million by 2020, courtesy the influx of several OTT platforms.
