The bomb threat emails received by around 150 schools in Delhi-NCR earlier this month are suspected to have been sent from Budapest, Hungary, according to Delhi Police officials on May 21. The IP address of these emails has been traced to Budapest, and Delhi Police will soon contact Hungarian authorities for further investigation.
The emails, sent from a mail.ru server, claimed that explosives were planted on the school premises, causing massive evacuations and searches as panicked parents rushed to pick up their children on May 1. However, the threat was later declared a hoax as no explosives were found.
After filing an FIR, the police contacted the Russian-based mailing service company 'mail.ru' via Interpol. An initial probe suggests a possible "deeper conspiracy" by a terror group, potentially linked to an ISIS module, especially concerning the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
