Coronavirus LIVE updates | Worst-affected 4 Haryana districts to fall in red zone: CM Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said four districts including Gurgaon, which have reported the maximum number of COVID-19 cases, will be declared "red zones", meaning stricter restrictions will placed in the areas to check the spread of the virus. The four districts --Gurgaon, Faridabad, Nuh and Palwal -- account for more than 100 cases out of the over 160 cases reported in the state. Many areas in these districts have already been declared containment zones. After interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a video conference, Khattar said in a televised address this evening that "the indications" from the meeting were that the lockdown is set to increase by two weeks.

Seven more people tested positive for coronavirus in Punjab today, taking the total number of cases in the state to 158, officials said. Besides, a 78-year-old woman who died on April 7, was found positive for COVID-19 yesterday, they said, adding that she was diabetic. Railways has converted 5,000 coaches into isolation wards for those infected with coronavirus and is likely to deploy them in rural areas after consultation with the health ministry, officials said today. The railways has set a target of converting 20,000 coaches to counter the pandemic, of which 5,000 coaches with 80,000 beds are ready to be deployed, the ministry said. (PTI)
