Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on November 11 inaugurated the Collins India Operations Centre (CIOC), developed by Collins Aerospace at the KIADB Aerospace Park in Devanahalli.
Speaking at the event, Siddaramaiah said, “Collins Aerospace is investing USD 25 million in Karnataka. This new facility will create over 2,000 skilled jobs in research, development, and advanced manufacturing. Karnataka contributes nearly 65 per cent to India’s aerospace and defence sector. World-class aerospace and defence parks are being established in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Mysuru, Tumakuru, and Chamarajanagar.”
He said that more than 2,000 small and medium enterprises operate in the aerospace and defence sectors across the state. “Companies such as Mahindra Aerospace and Rangsons have made substantial investments here, and 48 agreements have been signed in this sector. Rangsons, in partnership with Boeing, is investing Rs 2,915 crore. The state aims to attract investments worth Rs 45,000 crore and generate around 60,000 jobs over the next five years,” he said.
The 26-acre CIOC will enhance Collins Aerospace’s capability to manufacture advanced aerospace products for global markets.
The facility, equipped with artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, and robotics technologies, will initially produce seats, lighting and cargo systems, temperature sensors, communication and navigation systems, water solutions, and evacuation slides.
Roy Gullickson, senior vice president, Operations at Collins Aerospace, said, “Collins India Operations Centre will drive operations and manufacturing for more than 70 Collins products, enhancing worldwide service transformation and delivering operational excellence. CIOC will also have incremental capacity to support future growth opportunities and customer requirements.”
The facility will have an Industry 4.0 Building Management System, creating a connected ecosystem that enhances delivery speed and quality. It is LEED Silver and Indian Green Building Council Silver certified and is expected to host more than 2,200 employees by 2026.
Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil said that this is Collins Aerospace’s first facility in India under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and will cater to major global aviation players such as Boeing and Airbus. He praised the swift support provided by KIADB and Karnataka Udyog Mitra in obtaining approvals and infrastructure for the unit.
Collins Aerospace has been operating in India for nearly three decades and now employs over 6,500 professionals across engineering, digital, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain functions. Earlier this year, the company also announced a new Engineering Development and Test Center in Bengaluru.
