A prominent businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his residence in Bihar's Patna on Friday night.
The incident took place near the 'Panache' Hotel in the Gandhi Maidan police station area when Khemka was on his way home, according to a report by News18.
He lived in the 'Twin Tower' society, which is adjacent to the hotel. The accused shot at him just as he stepped out of his car near an apartment close to his residence and immediately fled. Gopal Khemka died on the spot.
Khemka was the owner of Magadh Hospital, one of the oldest private hospitals in the state.
The police have recovered one bullet and a shell casing from the crime scene and an investigation is underway.

"On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka has been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan... The crime scene has been secured, and further investigation is underway... One bullet and one shell have been recovered..." City SP Central, Diksha told ANI.

An SIT has been formed on businessman Gopal Khemka murder case by Bihar police, SP City Central will lead this SIT, DGP Vinay kumar told ANI.
With Bihar assembly elections just a few months away, the incident has sparked political outrage, with Purnea MP Pappu Yadav questioning the Nitish Kumar government's claims of good governance. He also visited the scene and consoled the family.
Notably, earlier in 2018, his son, Gunjan Khemka was also killed in broad daylight when an unidentified bike-borne assailant opened fire as he was going to step out of his car in front of his cotton factory in Vaishali, on the outskirts of Patna.
