BJP accuses Congress of 'tax theft', cites discrepancies in Priyanka's election affidavit

Gaurav Bhatia questioned the alleged discrepancies in declared assets and liabilities during Priyanka Gandhi's nomination procedure from Wayanad.

A day after Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra filed her nomination for Wayanad Lok Sabha by-poll, BJP on Thrusday slammed the Congress for indulging in tax theft and using the backward communities for their political gains.

Questioning the alleged discrepancies in declared assets and liabilities during the nomination procedure , BJP spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia said that the declared assets by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's husband Robert Vadra is much lower than his actual assets. Bhatia went on to add that he owes more than Rs 80 crore to the income tax authorities.

In her affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Priyanka Gandhi disclosed that she possesses movable assets valued at Rs 4.27 crore, that include deposits of varying amounts in three bank accounts, investments in mutual funds, PPF, a Honda CRV car gifted by her husband Robert Vadra, and over 4,400 grams (gross) of gold worth Rs 1.15 crore.

On Wednesday, Priyanka was accompanied by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, her husband Robert Vadra and other national and State leaders of the party.

Earlier on Wednesday, she took out a massive roadshow from Kalpetta in Wayanad, before filing the nomination for her maiden electoral battle from Wayanad for the Lok Sabha bypoll. On Wednesday, BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam took a sharp dig at Priyanka Gandhi, even as the latter was preparing to file her nomination papers and blamed Rahul Gandhi for running away from the constituency.
