In a shocking incident in Bengaluru on Sunday night, a 37-year-old woman was allegedly abducted, sexually assaulted, and robbed by two men while waiting for a bus in the K R Market area. She is reportedly a native of Tamil Nadu.
She had inquired about a bus to Yelahanka when the accused, pretending to help, misled her to Godown Street.
Apart from assaulting her, the accused stole her mobile phone, jewellery, and cash. The two suspects, Saravan, 35, and Ganesh, 23, both labourers, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
According to the Bengaluru police, the incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday near Godown Street.
The woman had left home a few days ago after a fight with her husband, said the police.
A case has been registered at the Women Police Station in Bengaluru Central Division, reported PTI.
Both suspects were involved in odd jobs.
The woman has been shifted to a shelter home, said Commissioner B. Dayananda, adding that a probe is underway.
Responding to the BJP's criticism of the state’s law-and-order situation, specifically B. Y. Vijayendra Yediyurappa’s remarks regarding the K R Market incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned whether incidents of rape did not occur during the BJP regime.
The CM further promised to crack down on “anti-social” elements who commit crimes.
