Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a delegation-level meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong praised Singapore not just as a country but as a model for developing nations. He emphasized India's aspiration to replicate Singapore’s success, saying, “Singapore is not just a country, Singapore is an inspiration for every developing country. We also want to create many Singapores in India and I am happy that we are working together in this direction.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of the newly formed ministerial roundtable between the two nations. “The ministerial roundtable that has been formed between us is a path-breaking mechanism,” Modi remarked, underlining the innovative approach to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
The discussions during the meeting focused on various collaborative efforts and future initiatives, reinforcing the shared commitment to advancing the India-Singapore partnership.
Expressing his appreciation for the warm reception, PM Modi extended his congratulations on Wong's recent appointment. The PM expressed confidence that under Wong’s leadership, Singapore will continue to achieve rapid progress.
PM Modi strengthens ties with Singapore, signs key MoUs
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his fifth official visit to Singapore, arrived on September 4 for a two-day trip. During the visit, he and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong elevated their bilateral relationship to a "comprehensive strategic partnership" and toured AEM, a leading semiconductor and electronics firm, strengthening cooperation in the sector. They were briefed on AEM’s role in the global semiconductor value chain and its future plans involving India.
Modi also met with former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, discussing collaborations in green energy and FinTech, and recognized his contributions to India-Singapore ties. On September 5, Modi met Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
Additionally, PM Modi and Singapore PM Wong signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), solidifying commitments in various sectors. The MoUs include agreements on digital technologies, semiconductor development, healthcare collaboration, and educational cooperation focused on skill development and vocational training.
