High-voltage drama unfolded in Madhya Pradesh's Indore after a 22-year-old BBA student, who had run away from her house on August 23, returned a week later, claiming that she had married a man whom she met at Ratlam railway station.
Media reports said that the girl has been identified as Shraddha Tiwari and had run away from home to marry her lover. However, when she returned seven days later, she had married another man.
Reports have linked Shraddha's story to that of Kareena Kapoor's character in the movie Jab We Met, who had left home to marry her lover but instead ended up marrying Shahid Kapoor's character Aditya.
According to media reports, the girl told the police that she had plans to elope with Sarthak, her boyfriend, However, Sarthak did not show up at the designated railway station and called her to say that he did not want to marry her.
Shraddha, who was heartbroken, boarded the train all by herself and got down at Ratlam station - another common point between her story and the movie Jab We Met. At the Ratlam station, Shraddha met another man named Karandeep, who is an electrician at a college in Indore.
Karandeep approached Shraddha and urged her to inform her parents and return home. However, Shraddha told him that she had left home to get married and would not be able to survive if she returned unmarried.
Despite Karandeep trying his hardest to convince her, Shraddha remained undeterred and finally, Karandeep proposed to her, following which, they got married. The couple travelled to Maheshwar-Mandleshwar and tied the knot.
According to media reports, the couple later visited the famous Sanwariya Seth temple before Shraddha walked into the Indore police station and announced that she had tied the knot with Karandeep. The police, however, asked Shraddha to provide a marriage certificate.
“Shraddha had called me, but I do not accept this marriage. Even after I sent her money to return, she chose to stay with Karandeep," Shraddha's father said.
“While the story sounds dramatic, she is not a minor and can legally marry anyone she chooses," MIG police station in charge CB Singh said.
Meanwhile, Indore’s Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia said that both Shraddha and Karandeep are being probed in the case.
