India will have a new GDP and CPI series by February 2026, Moneycontrol has learnt.
“We are working on revisions of GDP and CPI series,” Saurabh Garg, secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said at an event organised by Centre for Economic Data and Analysis, Ashoka University on November 29.
Moneycontrol had earlier reported that the government was working on rolling out the new GDP estimates in the last quarter of FY26.

The government is targeting 2022-23 as the base for the new GDP series.
The older series, currently in operation, has 2011-12 base.
The plans to revise the base were junked as the government did away with the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey of 2017-18 citing data quality issues.
The new CPI series will also be rolled out in February 2026.
The HCES 2022-23 was released earlier this year. The government will release the second iteration of the HCES in December.
The government had decided to conduct two HCES surveys to ensure data robustness.
MoSPI is also conducting a market survey to recognise shops and commodities to collate data.
