That ends a surprisingly one-sided game in Colombo. Bangladesh started well with the ball and closed out the first innings well, but lost the plot in the middle overs. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, capitalized only in the middle overs, with both, bat and ball. They would be buoyed by this win but both sides will admit that there is some improvement needed in both departments. The second ODI is scheduled on Saturday, 5th July, 2025, at this same venue, Colombo, with the first ball being scheduled to be bowled at 9 am GMT, but our buildup will begin well in advance. So do tune in early then. In the meanwhile. you can catch updates from around the globe, like the England-India Test, and the West Indies-Australia clash and also the Zimbabwe-South Africa encounter. Enjoy yourself. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The victorious skipper of SRI LANKA, CHARITH ASALANKA is also adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fantastic 106. Says that when he came out to bat, it was a difficult time for his side, and hence, he was only trying to do his basics right. Believes that he got a good start and just thought to play according to the situation. On the Lankan collapse in the death overs, Asalanka is disappointed that his side could not cash in with Bangladesh struggling with injuries, but also admits that there was simply no firepower. On the excellent Lankan fielding, Charith smiles and calls it simply amazing. Goes onto say that Sri Lanka's best fielding unit is its ODI team. On being asked about his habit of steering the sinking Lankan ship time and time again through crucial knocks, Asalanka shys away and laughs. Ends by saying that he has nothing much to say about that.
The captain of Bangladesh, MEHIDY HASAN MIRAZ, admits that the toss turned out to be crucial. Feels that the wicket was good and his team bowled really well, especially the fast bowling unit and took wickets early, but rues the fact that they could not get wickets in the middle overs. Credits Asalanka for the way he played. Believes that if Bangladesh had got wickets in the middle overs, they could have had a different result. On the cramps affecting the Bangladesh players, Mehidy admits that it was a big thing, as a couple of his main bowlers went down. But adds that this can happen in ODI cricket. On the run chase, Miraz says that his team did well with the bat in the first 20 overs and Tanzid Hasan batted well but admits that the mistake was in the run out of Najmul Hossain Shanto. On the middle-order collapse, Mehidy agrees that the batters did not play well. Details that back-to-back wickets are always a problem and if they had spent some time in the middle and got a small partnership of 20-25 runs, they could have managed to chase the target down.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier, in the game, it was Sri Lanka who were in sorts of trouble at 29/3 in the 7th over. But skipper Charith Asalanka batted like a rock and carried the team along, batting till the 50th over. His 106 helped form decent partnerships with Kusal Mendis, Liyanage, Rathnayake and even Hasaranga. Given the platform they had, at 226/6, with 5 overs left, the skipper would have expected to get to around 275-280, especially with Bangladesh cramping, but they had a mini collapse, which restricted them to 244. Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with 4 scalps while Tanzim Hasan Sakib chipped in with 3. Please stay tuned for the presentation.
A tough pill to swallow for the visitors. They come from a place where spin is played well and to lose 8 wickets to spin will not go down well with them. Add to the fact that they were coasting to victory at one stage. Tanzid Hasan looked superb at the top but the middle order just got blown away, except for one lone fighter in Jaker Ali, who continued his impressive form with another half century.
That particular run out of Shanto seemed to spark a brilliance in the Lankan camp. They just threw themselves on the field like cheetahs and it seemed like Bangladesh were taking it a bit easy. Before you could blink your eye, the visitors slipped from 100/1 to 105/8 - that's 7 wickets for 5 runs in the span of 27 balls! The tourists had no idea what hit them. After the run out, spin claimed all the 8 wickets to fall as Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis destroyed that middle order. Jaker Ali tried to stretch the game deep but the result could not be changed.
Chasing 245 for a win, Bangladesh got off to a flier, primarily riding on Tanzid Hasan's form. He looked extremely fluent as the ball seemed to be skidding onto the bat nicely under the lights. Former skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was giving him good company as well, with the pair doing well for the second wicket. Then, something happened. At 99/1, Najmul looked to pinch a couple but it turned out to be a risky call and he was run out. Little did he know, it was probably the biggest call of death knell ever made.
Brilliance or a gift served on a platter? Call it what you want but Sri Lanka have pulled a rabbit out of the hat. For around 15-odd overs, they looked at sea in the run chase but one opportunity came their way and they kicked the door open. Have to question Bangladesh's mindset with the bat but that takes nothing away from the home side.
35.5OUT! LBW! That ends the match as Hasaranga finishes with 4 scalps. Full, outside off, another googly, Jaker Ali gets down to sweep but misses and is hit on the pads. Hasaranga appeals and the umpire agrees. Jaker wants a review but there is none left. BANGLADESH BOWLED OUT FOR 167 AND SRI LANKA WIN BY 77 RUNS!
35.4Full, around middle and leg, Jaker defends it to the leg side.
35.3Full and around off, stabbed into the cover region.
35.2Outside off, pushed to the off side.
35.1Tossed up, full and on middle, Jaker Ali watches it through and blocks it out.
5 Penalty runs awarded to Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, in Edgbaston, England have managed a couple of quick strikes to have India at 236/5, on the opening day of the second Test. Shubman Gill is looking solid on 75 at one end. Drama in Colombo! The umpire has signalled PENALTY to Sri Lanka and this means, 5 PENALTY RUNS get added in Bangladesh's scorecard! This is as per the new rule, which states that if you are found behind the timer in starting the new over and have been warned twice, you will face a penalty on the third attempt.
34.6Nothing much on the Free Hit! Someone needs to tell the slip fielder that it is a Free Hit as he starts celebrating. Maheesh Theekshana fires this one full and on middle, Mustafizur Rahman clears his front leg to slog it but misses as the ball crashes onto the stumps.
34.6Flatter, short and on leg, Mustafizur Rahman fails to flick it away and gets hit high on the pads. There is a slight appeal for LBW, but turned down. It would not have mattered anyway, as the siren goes off here. Theekshana has overstepped here. It is a No Ball. Free Hit up next.
34.5Quicker one, full and on leg, Jaker Ali clips it through square leg for a single.
34.4FOUR! FIFTY FOR ALI! His third ODI half-century and he is standing as the lone warrior for Bangladesh. Flighted, full and around off, Jaker Ali has a wild swing across the line. Gets an outside edge that flies well past short third for a boundary.
34.3Darts in a yorker now, on leg, Jaker Ali backs away and digs it out to the right of the bowler.

32.6Flighted, full and on middle, Mustafizur Rahman blocks it out solidly. At the same stage, Sri Lanka were 156/5. Not much difference in runs, but massive difference in the wickets column.
Slight halt in play. Charith Asalanka is helping to tighten the pads of his keeper, Kusal Mendis. We are good to go again.
32.5Arm ball, short and on off, angling in, Mustafizur Rahman stays back and keeps it out.

32.1Flatter, full and well outside off, Jaker Ali backs away and leaves it thinking it is a wide, but it is inisde the guideline.
DRINKS! The result looks inevitable here unless Jaker Ali can pull off something special here, but he will also need Mustafizur Rahman to hold the other end as they only have one wicket remaining. Sri Lanka will feel that they have things under control, and it is only a matter of time. But they still cannot take things lightly and try to force the issue and wrap things up as quickly as possible.
31.6Almost! Asitha Fernando bangs in a quick and sharp bouncer, on middle, angling in. Mustafizur Rahman tries to sway away from it but keeps his bat hanging out. The ball takes the outisde edge but lands safely in the vacant short third region.

31.3Slower one, hard length and on off, Jaker Ali punches it to covers.

31.1FOUR! A bit sloppy in the field! Asitha Fernando starts this spell with a fuller one and on off, Jaker Ali stays deep in his crease and drills it hard and wide of mid off. Charith Asalanka runs to his left but dives over the ball to let it through for a boundary.
30.6Slower through the air, short and on leg, Mustafizur Rahman misses his flick and gets hit high on the body. A slight appeal for LBW, but turned down.

30.1JUST SHORT! Tossed up, full and on middle and off, Jaker Ali slogs it aerially down the ground, does not get the elevation as it goes flat towards long on. The fielder runs in and dives but the ball drops well short of him. He does well to get his body behind to stop the boundary.
29.6Fizz survives! Flatter, full and on middle, Mustafizur Rahman keeps it out well.

28.5Another appeal for caught behind, but turned down! Short and wide outside off again, Mustafizur Rahman stays back to punch it away but misses. Kusal Mendis grabs it and thinks there is an edge but they do not go for the review.
Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in.
28.4OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Tanvir Islam fails to survive and Maheesh Theekshana gets his first wicket now. He bowls this quicker, short and outside off, angling away too. Islam backs away a bit and tries to cut it away but only manages to get a thin outside edge behind where Kusal Mendis takes a sharp catch. Bangladesh are 123/9 now, still needing 120 runs in 128 balls. Sri Lanka just one wicket away!

21.2A touch shorter in length, outside off, defended solidly.
21.1Full and outside off, Jaker Ali just dead-bats it towards point.
20.6Slows it up, full and around off, turns away, Tanvir Islam leaves it alone. Just one extra, and two wickets from the over. Superb stuff!
Debutant Tanvir Islam walks in next, at number 10, replacing Taskin Ahmed.
20.5OUT! LBW! Another one bites the dust! Kamindu Mendis gets his second in the over, or does he? Taskin Ahmed takes the review after having a chat with his partner. UltraEdge confirms no bat involved, and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. OUT it is! Coming to the delivery, Mendis bowls the arm ball, full and on middle, angling in a hit. Taskin strides out to defend but plays down the wrong line and gets hit on the pads. Number eight down for Bangladesh, and Taskin takes a review with himself as well. Sri Lanka just a couple of wickets away from the win now!
20.5Fires one full but down the leg side, Taskin Ahmed misses his flick. Wided.
20.4Flighted, full and on middle, Taskin Ahmed blocks it back to the bowler.
20.3Outside off, this time an off spinner, pushed to the off side.
Taskin Ahmed walks in next, at number 9, replacing Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
20.2OUT! CAUGHT! Another stunner and Sanath Jayasuriya in the Lankan dugout is besides himself! Sri Lanka just can't do anything wrong in this last half hour. 6 wickets for 4 runs in the last 24 balls! A full toss, on middle, Tanzim leans and flicks it uppishly through mid-wicket. But Maheesh Theekshana at short mid-wicket leaps to his left and takes a very good catch! Second wicket to Kamindu and this is the 5th wicket to spin in this innings. Tanzim departs for 1 (6) and from 100/1, Bangladesh have slipped down to 104/7! Equation - 141 from 178!
20.1Left-arm spin, from around the wicket, Tanzim Hasan Sakib defends.
19.6Ooohh... full and outside off, Jaker looks to drive but does not pick the googly. The ball spins back in, takes the inside edge and goes to short fine leg! Hasaranga and the umpire - both sport a smile. Just a run and a wicket from the over, Hasaranga's bowling figures read - 2-0-3-3!
19.5Outside off, punched through the covers for a single.
19.4Down the leg side, Tanzim looks to paddle but gets it off the pads to short fine leg.

19.2Full toss, worked through mid on but short mid-wicket dives to his left to stop the ball.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib walks in next, at number 8, replacing his captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
19.1OUT! LBW! The skipper goes too! A googly, outside off, short of full length, Mehidy Hasan Miraz walks across his stumps to flick but misses and is hit on the pads. Hasaranga appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Mehidy takes the review but Ball Tracking shows it to be hitting leg stump! Wicket number 3 for 'Wow'indu and this is the second duck in the innings! From 100/1, Bangladesh have slipped to 103/6 and the equation reads - 142 from 185!
18.6Huge appeal for LBW, turned down! Full, around off, Jaker looks to defend but is squared up and the ball goes off something to short third. He wants a single but is sent back. Now, Sri Lanka believe they have their man and take the review for LBW. The third umpire checks it but on the first replay itself, he is convinced that Jaker has hit it. Rules it not out but Charith Asalanka is not convinced. He wants the third umpire to use technology and UltraEdge detects a spike when the ball is past the bat. Not sure whether the fielding captain can force the umpire to use technology. That's the latter's call. Besides, it was clearly evident from the replay.
18.5Very full, pushed back to the bowler.
18.4Full, around off, well defended.
Jaker Ali walks in next, at number 7, replacing Tawhid Hridoy. Jaker was impressive in the Carribean tour as well.
18.3OUT! BOWLED! Third wicket to spin and Bangladesh are spiralling down here. Landed outside off, Tawhid Hridoy looks to defend but the ball pitches and then spins past in between bat and pad, to hit the timber! Hridoy does not know what has happened. Nor do Bangladesh. From 100/1, they have slipped to 103/5! Equation - 142 from 189. 1 (4) for Hridoy.
18.2Very full, around off, jammed towards cover.

18.1WIDE. Down the leg side, Tawhid Hridoy misses his flick.
More spin. Here's Kamindu Mendis.
17.6Full and around off, Mehidy Hasan Miraz pushes it towards mid on. What an over to begin your bowling - 2 runs and 2 wickets - game changer?
In walks the skipper, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, at number 6, replacing Tanzid Hasan.
17.5OUT! CAUGHT! That is a stunner and this game is wide and truly open! Wow. Does not take long for 101 to follow 100. Full, outside off, Tanzid Hasan looks to hammer this through mid off and for a major part of that event, it seems like the ball is in the gap. But Janith Liyanage races across to his right from mid off and literally flies, taking a terrific two-hander, actually going backwards! Also makes sure that despite the dive and the contact with the ground, the ball did not pop out. Tanzid departs for 62 (61) and from 100/1, Bangladesh have slipped to 102/4! Equation - 143 from 193.
17.4On middle and leg, tucked straight to mid-wicket.
17.3On middle and leg, worked through the leg side for a single to get off the mark.
Tawhid Hridoy walks in next, at number 5, replacing Litton Das.
17.2OUT! LBW! Sri Lanka overturn the onfield decision! Excellent use of the review. The googly, outside off, Litton Das lunged across to defend but missed as the ball spun back in and hit him on the pads. Hasaranga started off on a celebratory run, but the umpire stood firm. Were there two noises? No, says Hasaranga. His skipper and keeper have a chat and Wanindu is convinced this is gone. Asalanka signals the 'T' and UltraEdge returns a flat line, when the ball is close to the bat. Ball Tracking shows it to be hitting leg stump! 100 ODI WICKETS FOR HASARANGA and he is the second quickest Sri Lankan to this milestone! Litton comes and goes for a 4-baller and from 100/1, Bangladesh are now 101/3 in 17.2 overs! Equation - 144 from 196 balls.
17.1A touch short to start, around middle and leg, Tanzid Hasan punches this down to long on for a single.
Wanindu Hasaranga to bowl now.
16.6Down the leg side, clipped straight to short mid-wicket. 4 runs and a wicket from the over, Maheesh Theekshana's bowling figures read 5-1-17-0.
16.5A quick short ball, outside off, Litton looks to cut but misses.
16.4Around off, defended solidly.
DRINKS BREAK. How costly could that misjudgement prove, from Shanto? Bangladesh were looking all over Sri Lanka like a rash and the hosts were desperate for a wicket. The pitch is not offering much, apart from inconsistent bounce here and there and the home side will hope that this triggers a collapse. The visitors, on the other hand, will aim for one more strong stand to get a 1-0 lead. Litton Das walks in next, at number 4, replacing Najmul Hossain Shanto.
16.3OUT! NAJMUL HOSSAIN SHANTO IS RUN OUT! What a bonus for Sri Lanka. They were looking down and out and this has come as a blessing to them. A straight delivery, around middle and leg, Najmul Hossain Shanto worked this through square leg and called for two. It seemed like the two was on because it was Shanto's call. But Milan Rathnayake charged onto the ball from deep backward square leg and returned a powerful throw to the keeper, Kusal Mendis. Suspect that Shanto was not expecting the throw to be so accurate and had to step on the accelerator around the midway mark. Towards the end, had to put in the dive and by that time, Kusal seemed to have taken the bails off. The Lankans started to celebrate but the umpire wanted double confirmation and sent it upstairs. The first replay was clear enough to show that Najmul was short, even with the dive but the third umpire took multiple replays before eventually being satisfied. OUT flashes on the giant screen and the crowd roars! The 71-run stand has been broken and Najmul Hossain Shanto departs for 23 (26). Bangladesh are 100/2 and need another 145 from 201 balls!
Run out check! Sri Lanka are already celebrating. The third umpire is called into action. And it will be a wicket!
16.2Down the leg side, Tanzid works it through fine leg and races hard to come back for the third.
16.1Maheesh Theekshana is back on. Starts with a length delivery on middle and leg, Tanzid looks to flick but gets a leading edge to cover.
15.6Leading edge, safe! Around off, fuller in length, Tanzid looks to flick but gets a leading edge. However, the ball flies over mid off. The fielder runs back and gets to the ball and pulls it back in. Three runs taken. 149 more needed from 204 balls.
15.5Around off, pushed towards cover.
15.4FOUR! Bad line. A short ball, down the leg side, Tanzid Hasan tucks it to the fine leg fence.
15.3Outside off, pushed towards point for a run.
15.2Landed well outside off, on a yorker length, dabbed towards deep third for a single.
15.1On a length, outside off, Tanzid Hasan punches it towards point.
14.6FIFTY FOR HASAN! A half-century of the highest order! He has looked in sublime touch here and will want to make this a big one now. Coming to the delivery, this is short and outside off, Tanzid Hasan steers it to point for a run.
14.5Much better! Slows it up, full and on middle, Tanzid Hasan defends it on the front foot.
14.4FOUR! Put away! Half-tracker, on middle, begging to be hit, Tanzid Hasan quickly rocks back and smashes it over mid-wicket for a boundary.
14.3RIPPER! Tosses it up, full and on off, grips and turns away sharply. Tanzid Hasan gets drawn forward to defend but the ball just spins past the outside edge. There is definitely some turn on this wicket, but the Lankan bowlers need to hit the right areas consistently.
14.2Floated, full and on middle, Tanzid Hasan pushes it to short covers where the fielder makes a good diving stop.
14.1Flighted, full and outside off, Najmul Hossain Shanto goes down and drags his sweep through square leg for a single.
13.6Uppish but safe! Hard length and just around off, Tanzid Hasan looks to swat it away but checks his shot at the last moment. He hits it aerially but well wide of the bowler and towards mid on.
13.5Bangs this into the pitch and on middle and off, Najmul Hossain Shanto plays a slap-pull through mid-wicket for one.
13.4Back of a length and on middle, Najmul Hossain Shanto hops up and bunts it on the pitch. The bounce takes it over the bowler, but Maheesh Theekshana cuts it out at mid on.
13.3Slower one, full and on middle, Tanzid Hasan knocks it towards mid on for another run.
13.2Good length and around off, Najmul Hossain Shanto opens the face of his bat and guides it to third man for a run. That brings up the 50-RUN STAND between these two batters in 52 BALLS.
13.1Short of a length and outisde off, Tanzid Hasan cuts it away through point for a single.

12.3In the air...safe! Flighted, full and on middle, turns away a bit. Tanzid Hasan goes down for the slog sweep but gets a bit of a top edge. The ball flies towards deep mid-wicket but lands well in front of the fielder. Asalanka is not happy with the effort, as he thinks the fielder could have made an effort for the catch.
12.2Floated, full and on leg, Najmul Hossain Shanto clips it through square leg for a single.
12.1A huge shout for LBW, but turned down! Charith Asalanka has a long chat with his keeper, Kusal Mendis and decides not to go for the review. This is tossed up, full and on middle and off. Najmul Hossain Shanto goes down across to paddle it away but misses and gets hit on the pads. Probably impact is outside off!
11.6Much fuller and around off, Tanzid Hasan strides out and drives firmly but straight to extra covers. Eshan Malinga's first over yields 9 runs.

11.1Eshan Malinga starts with a back-of-a-length delivery, on off. It hits Najmul Hossain Shanto's bat hard as he runs it down to deep third for a single.
Bowler number 5 for the innings. Here's Eshan Malinga. Also, Charith Asalanka is off the field, talking to coach Sanath Jayasuriya. Seems like a comfort break.

10.1Tosses it up, full and on middle, Najmul Hossain Shanto steps across a bit and clips it to short mid-wicket.
Decent Powerplay 1 for Bangladesh. They are 61/1 as compared to Sri Lanka's 50/3 and have got a head start. Powerplay 2 has been signalled and we shall now have 4 fielders outside the 30-yard circle till the 40th over. The Lankans managed 142/3 in the middle phase.

9.3Outside off, steered straight to backward point.
9.2Outside off, pushed towards the bowler who stops it in his followthrough.
9.1On middle, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
87 strikes for England! Yes, normally it is considered to be an unlucky number for Australia, as it is 13 short of a 100, but Yashasvi Jaiswal has been consumed by that number for now. Ben Stokes breaks the 66-run stand between Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, getting rid of Jaiswal for 87 and India are 161/3 in the 46th over, on the opening day of the second Test at Edgbaston.
8.6Slows it up a bit, full and on off, Tanzid Hasan defends it on the front foot.

Charith Asalanka brings himself on.
7.6Flatter, full and around off, Tanzid Hasan steers it to point. A MAIDEN from Theekshana, the first of the innings!
7.5Five dots in a row now! Goes around the wicket to avoid stepping into the danger area. He drags his length back, on middle, angling in, Tanzid Hasan stays back and keeps it out to the leg side.

7.3Full and straight, Tanzid Hasan defends.
7.2Around middle, pushed towards short mid-wicket again.
7.1On middle and leg, worked towards short mid-wicket. Immediately, the umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge, ask Theekshana to stay away from the danger area. The replay shows that his right foot was coming near the danger area in the followthrough. What this implies is Theekshana cannot bowl from close to the stumps.
Maheesh Theekshana returns. 2-0-10-0 so far.
6.6Pitched up but on the pads, Najmul Hossain Shanto flicks it away nicely wide of deep square leg for a brace. 10 runs off this over as well, 20 in the last 2!
6.5FOUR! Shanto is taking the game to the bowlers here! Asitha Fernando goes a bit full and wide outside off. Shanto once again charges down the track and tries to loft it away. He ends up slicing it but gets it well over point as it teases the fielder but wins the race to the fence.
6.4FOUR! Gets off the mark with a boundary! Short of a length and on middle and off. Najmul Hossain Shanto uses his feet but stays leg side of the ball. He frees his arms and thumps it past the bowler, through mid on for four runs.
6.3Good tight, accurate bowling. On a length, around middle and off, Najmul defends.

5.5Touch fuller and on middle and off, Tanzid Hasan knocks it towards mid off.
5.4SIX! PICKED UP AND HOW! Milan Rathnayake bangs this one into the pitch, but it does not bounce that much. Tanzid Hasan gets on top of it in a flash and whacks it nonchalantly over the deep square leg fence for a biggie. 206 more needed from 266 balls.
5.3FOUR! Cracking shot. Short and wide outside off, Tanzid cuts it through point where Kamindu Mendis is a touch lazy in getting to the ball and it slips through.

5.1On a length, around middle and leg, Tanzid Hasan looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads.
Milan Rathnayake will come on as the first bowling change.
4.6On a good length, outside off, Shanto looks to cut but the ball stays low and beats the outside edge. 4 runs and a wicket from the over, Asitha Fernando's bowling figures read 3-0-17-1!
4.5On a length, around off, pushed to the off side.
Najmul Hossain Shanto walks in next, at number 3, replacing Parvez Hossain Emon.
4.4OUT! CAUGHT! There goes the first wicket. A total waste. That's the way the new generation plays, not necessarily putting a price tag on their wicket. A short ball, around middle, Emon goes for the pull but the ball skids off the surface and hence, comes on much quicker than his anticipation. Additionally, the ball was angling away from him and hence, the batter had to drag the pull to the leg side. Got a top edge which went straight up in the air. A couple of fielders go for the catch but the keeper, Kusal Mendis calls for it. The ball swirls in the air and he nearly ends up running back and forth, but eventually, takes the catch safely. Parvez Hossain Emon departs for 13 (16) and Bangladesh are 29/1 after 4.4 overs! Equation - 216 from 272.
4.3FOUR! Straight as a dye! Full and straight, Parvez Hossain Emon hits it straight back over the bowler for a boundary down the ground!
4.2This time it is a fuller ball but Emon misses out again. Flicks it straight to short mid-wicket.
4.1On a length, around middle, Parvez Hossain Emon looks to help it away to the leg side but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
3.6The arm ball, and I think it was a seam-up delivery. Because it literally swung back into the batter. But Hasan is watchful and defends.
3.5The arm ball, around off, pushed towards point.
3.4FOUR MORE! Change of angle from the bowler but no change in result. Theekshana switches to around the wicket but lands it full and around middle. Tanzid picks it from that length and goes straighter this time, to the right of mid on, but well over his head, for consecutive boundaries!
3.3FOUR! HAMMERED! The carrom ball, around middle, Tanzid Hasan picks it early and swings it over mid on, for a boundary!
3.2Outside off, punched back to the bowler.
3.1Full and straight, defended to the leg side.
2.6Full, around off, defended solidly.
2.5Outside off, punched towards the off side.
2.4Oh dear, that is a hack. On a length, outside off, Tanzid jumps down the track and swings wildly. Is nowhere near the pitch of the ball and gets a top edge which nearly flies down the throat of deep third. The ball lands just in front. A single taken.
2.3FOUR! BEAUTY! On a length, outside off, Tanzid Hasan shows the full face of the bat and just punches it down the ground. Mid off tries to get across to his left but the ball is already past him! 229 more needed from 285 balls.
Hissssss. Oh my word. A snake is on the ground and it is calmly going about its job, around the point boundary! Hopefully, it is not poisonous but still, would be better if someone helps it off the field and into somewhere which can be called its natural habitat!
2.2Plenty of swing but down the leg side. The ball starts from around leg stump but swings further down the leg side, on a fuller length. Emon misses out on the flick and gets hit on the pads. The ball rolls aside down the leg side and the batters take a leg bye.
2.1Full and just around off, 135 kph, Parvez Hossain Emon shows the full face of his bat, gets his head down to where the ball lands, I mean, the eyesight and not literally and meets the ball perfectly, to push it towards point.
1.6Down the leg side, TH works it straight to short mid-wicket.
1.5Another missile, outside off, Hasan looks to cut but misses.
1.4Outside off, punched towards cover.
1.3Nothing much on the Free Hit. Fired in outside off, Emon looks to go over the top but mid off is nearly three-quarters of the way ahead of the ropes. Jogs back a touch and takes the catch but since this is a Free Hit, the catch won't count. A single taken.
1.3Full, around off, Parvez Hossain Emon defends watchfully. Uh oh... the siren goes off which means that Theekshana has overstepped! NO BALL signalled and a Free Hit will follow.
1.2Mixup, but safe. Down the leg side, Tanzid looks to flick but misses. The ball goes off his pads through the vacant leg slip region and Emon calls him through for the single. Tanzid is ball watching and hence, sets off late and in the meanwhile, the fielder from first slip quickly gets to the ball. Fires a throw at the bowler's end but the batter makes it in. Leg bye signalled. Tanzid apologizes to his partner.
1.1Full, on leg stump, from over the wicket, pitches and zips through, Tanzid Hasan defends.
Interesting opening over. That new ball swung but leaked runs as well. Will we see spin from this end? Indeed. Maheesh Theekshana, who has got so much experience in operating with the new ball in T20s, will bowl from the other end, with the second new ball.
0.6On a length, around off, Parvez Hossain Emon is on the move, while trying to drive and gets a bit of an outside edge towards point.
0.5On a length again, outside off, PHE thrashes that as well, but cannot beat point.
0.4FOUR! Boy o boy, has the dew arrived? Just 4 balls bowled, but already, this pitch is looking like a batting beauty under the lights. On a length, around off, Parvez Hossain Emon comes forward and punches it through the covers. The fielder dives to his left but the ball flies past. 237 more needed from 296 balls.
0.3On a length, outside off, slanting away, Parvez slashes hard but misses.
0.2FOUR! Let's use the phrase again - what a start! This time, for the batter. Overpitched, outside off, Emon leans and drives it between cover and point to begin the innings with a boundary.
0.1What a start! Inswinging yorker straightaway, from off to middle, dipping onto the batter, Parvez Hossain Emon does well to bring his bat down in time to defend.
