Pat Cummins was brought by SRH for Rs 20.5 crore at the auction on Tuesday.

Australian captain Pat Cummins became the most expensive player in IPL history, after he was brought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.5 crore in the auction held in Dubai on Tuesday.

Cummins surpassed Sam Curran's mark of Rs 18.5 crore, when he was brought by Punjab Kings at the 2023 auction.

There was a fierce bidding war between Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad and eventually he went to SRH for a record sum. The 2016 champions also brought Travis Head for Rs 6.8 crore and Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for Rs 1.5 crore.

The franchise finished at the bottom of the points table in the 2023 edition and revamped their coaching setup, bringing in former New Zealand spinner and RCB coach Daniel Vettori as their new head coach.

Some of the other big buys at the auction included Harshal Patel going to Punjab Kings for Rs 11.75 crore and Rovman Powell going to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 7.4 crore.
