IPL 2019 | DC vs SRH Eliminator Preview: Watch live, team news, betting odds and possible XI

Delhi Capitals have never reached the IPL final nor have made the top-two. They have entered the top-four spot for the first time since 2012.

The road to the finale of IPL 2019 seems to have gotten tougher for Delhi Capitals (DC), but the team may well have the means to drive their way through the obstacles. This year, Delhi will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on May 8.

Delhi Capitals have been one of the top sides in this edition of the IPL and have played world class cricket, something they lacked as a team.

For them to play the do-or-die game despite securing 18 points seems a bit harsh, given that they won nine matches and lost five in their total 14 games played so far.

Despite winning three more matches than Hyderabad, DC could well be knocked out of the league by SRH.

Delhi Capitals have never reached the IPL final nor have made the top-two. They have entered the top-four spot for the first time since 2012.

Considering the results and consistency, it seemed DC's search for that elusive winning combination has finally ended, which brought smiles back on the face of fans after years of disappointment.

There have been the failures too. After a dominant start against Mumbai, Delhi went down to CSK, suffered one of their worst collapses ever against Kings XI Punjab and lost a home game to SRH.

Things turned around after the SRH game and Delhi emerged as one of the best teams on the road this season.

Picked in the trading window, India opener Shikhar Dhawan lived up to the expectations of the team management and franchise, scoring over 450 runs.

Along with the young Prithvi Shaw, the experienced Dhawan formed a fine opening combination, and scored briskly in the powerplay overs.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer (over 400 runs) showed immense maturity while leading the side and also played some substantial knocks.

Ignored from the World Cup squad at the expense of Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant has proved his worth in the side with his handy cameos at crucial junctures.

Delhi were also helped by the presence of two of cricket's greatest brains Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly.

They will miss the services of pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada but DC have enough firepower in bowling to surprise SRH.

Hyderabad became the first team in IPL history to qualify for the playoffs with 12 points.

While the duo of Warner and Bairstow played a pivotal role in SRH's performances and dominated the powerplay better than other teams, the likes of Manish Pandey stepped in after they left to be with their respective national teams.

In bowling, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneswar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed have done just enough to help Sunrisers Hyderabad keep things.

In Kane Williamson, SRH have a dependable captain and he will expect a little more from his New Zealand team-mate Martin Guptill.

It will be another opportunity for Vijay Shankar to make a mark before flying to the United Kingdom for the World Cup.

Head to head

The two teams have played against each other 14 times. DC have won 9 of those matches while SRH have managed wins on 5 other occasions.

The two teams have shared spoils in the two group stage matches that they have played against each other earlier in this season.

In the match played in Delhi, SRH defeated the home side in a low scoring encounter. Batting first, Shreyas Iyer scored a battling 43 to help his side to a paltry total of 129/8 in 20 overs. Then, Jonny Bairstow struck a quick fire 48 as SRH chased the total down in 18.3 overs

DC then returned the favor when the sides met in Hyderabad.  DC skipper again stood out for his batting as he struck 45 off 40 balls. This time though he was supported by Colin Munro who blasted his way to 40 from 24 balls. DC ended with the total 155/7 in 20 overs. In the chase, Warner struck 51 and Bairstow hit 41 but Rabada's 4-wicket haul and Chris Morris's spell of 3/22 restricted to the Orange Army to 116.

Team News

SRH will miss the services of its linchpins Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. The two have left SRH for England and Australia respectively for World Cup preparations.

DC too will miss its key player Kagiso Rabada. After Rabada complained of shoulder strain, Cricket South Africa called him back for rehabilitation and WC preparations.

Prediction

SRH were reliant on Warner and Bairstow do deliver wins for them. Their absence will affect side's balance. DC should win this encounter as they have a far more balanced team.
