Rohit Sharma added 45 runs for the 5th wicket along with Pujara before throwing away his wicket with a reckless shot in the 38th over off Lyon’s bowling. Rishabh Pant then added 41 runs along with Pujara but fell to a brilliant delivery from Lyon as he conceded a faint edge back to the keeper in the 50th over reducing India to 127/6. (Image: AP)

On a day that India’s top-order perished due to poor shot selection, Pujara rescued his team with a fighting century. He completed his 100 off 230 balls in the 85th over. He was run out in the 88th over thanks to some spectacular work by Pat Cummins at mid-on. Cummins had one stump to aim at and he hit it with a side arm throw while still diving forward to dismiss the centurion. Thanks to Pujara’s 123, India’s score read 250/9 at stumps on Day 1.
