On the morning of Day 1 of the fourth Test being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bat first. Both India and Australia made two changes in their playing XI. Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma made way for KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav.
