England defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Melbourne on November 13. This is England's second T20 WC title.
England chasing a target of 138 runs, won the match with 6 balls remaining. Ben Stokes hit the winning run as the team chased down the target. Stokes' maiden T20I half-century (52 not out off 49 balls) helped the team win the summit clash comfortably. Jos Buttler (26), Harry Brook (20) and Moeen Ali (19) were the other contributors.
This was after Jos Buttler opted to bowl first.
Left arm pacer Sam Curran's 3/12 spell restricted Pakistan batting to 137/8 in 20 overs. Shan Masood was the top-scorer for Pakistan with 38 off 28.
Babar Azam (32), Mohammad Rizwan (15), and Shadab Khan (20) were the only others who reached double figures.
Leg-spinner Adil Rashid did the early damage for England with two wickets, including the key wicket of captain Babar Azam for 32, before Pakistan crumbled in the final overs. And, Chris Jordan picked up 2 wickets conceding 27 runs.
England are now the first nation to hold both global white-ball trophies, having won the 50-over World Cup on home soil in 2019.
