Discount Yuvraj Singh at your own peril, says former selector Saba Karim

Speaking to CricketNext, Karim not only batted for the senior pro, but also said that writing off Yuvraj would be the biggest mistake, something that the previous set of national selectors had done.

At 35, Yuvraj Singh is definitely not getting any younger and considering the fitness standards the current crop of Indian cricketers set, led by none other than skipper Virat Kohli and old warhorse MS Dhoni, the southpaw’s omission from the squad for the first three ODIs against Steve Smith's Australia did not come as a surprise. While pundits are already busy discussing if this is the end of the road for one of India’s best limited-overs cricketers, former selector Saba Karim begs to differ.

Speaking to CricketNext, Karim not only batted for the senior pro, but also said that writing off Yuvraj would be the biggest mistake, something that the previous set of national selectors had done. Known to call a spade a spade, Karim had no hesitation in accepting that the previous panel, led by Sandeep Patil, had thought that the all-rounder was past his prime. But Yuvi surprised one and all by making a comeback into the national team last year.
