In a major boost, Apple supplier Foxconn is looking to acquire up to 300 acres of land parcel near Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, a report by The Economic Times said on April 14.
The plant, which will become the first in North India, could be bigger than the facility planned in Bengaluru, which is poised to become the second biggest globally, the newspaper said.
The development comes at a time when the Taiwan-based firm and Apple are looking to set up supply chain in India to avoid tariffs imposed on China.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify the report.
The report further said that it is yet to be determined what will be manufactured and the discussions with the government are ‘ongoing’.
Additionally, the land parcel’s likely location is closer to HCL-Foxconn’s 50-acre plant for semiconductor assembly facility, ET said.
The state government had allotted land near the upcoming Jewar airport for the HCL-Foxconn plant.
