A high-profile panel of Indian experts including civic authorities and technology specialists are expected to come together for a ‘National Summit and Exhibition on Water, Waste Water Treatment & Solid Waste Management’ on 29 - 30 September 2015 at Le Meridien, New Delhi.
Organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd, the main objective of the Summit is to push the debate over sustainability into the corporate arena and convince private and government authorities that adoption of green technologies and long-term sustainable strategies are fundamental to economic growth. A speaker panel comprising of top officials from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Ministry of Water Resources and Ganga Rejuvenation, Delhi Jal Board among other government and environment bodies will address vital issues aimed at mitigating India’s waste and wastewater concerns. Alongside the summit, a line-up of green technology companies will draw attention to some of the latest developments and scalable solutions in the waste, water and renewable energy sectors.
Wastewater management has become an extremely important area of focus due to increasing industrial and population pressure and growing awareness of its ill effects on health. In India, average availability of water is declining drastically with the country expected to become a water stressed nation by 2020. Fast paced economic development is resounding the need for efficient water and waste management solutions. Moreover, the emergence of a new industry outlook that places emphasis on zero wastage and sustainable manufacturing set-ups have put pressures not only on water requirements but also on water treatment.
The Summit, through its focus on water & waste treatment on day one will take up important topics of real time water quality monitoring as per CPCB directions, microbial treatment of waste water, decentralised waste water management and zero liquid discharge in industries.
Challenges facing effective solid waste management in India will be discussed on day two.  India, being one of the most populated countries in the world is a source of a humongous amount of waste be it municipal solid waste, hazardous waste, biomedical waste or e-waste. Traditional waste treatment techniques like dumping, direct landfilling, direct burning etc. are becoming unviable with the decreasing land sites for waste dumping as well as the severe environmental pollution resulting from them.
Bringing specialists from engineering and environment sides, the Summit will draw attention to an integrated processing technology approach for Indian municipal solid waste as well as recycling technologies in developed countries that find relevance and effective application in developing countries like India. Waste reduction and waste planning in sustainable smart cities is another key topic that will be taken up at the Summit highlighting the current scenario and guidelines that need to be implemented right from the planning stages of smart cities.
Over the two days, the Summit is also expected to provide an overview of the Indian Government’s recent environment-focused schemes including the Clean Ganga project, Swachh Bharat mission and urban solid waste management programmes.
Indian technology companies such as Annapurna Imports, Aruna Green Ventures Pvt Ltd, DVS Biolife, GEIST Research Pvt Ltd, High Performance Products Industries Pvt Ltd, Nevco Engineers Pvt Ltd, Rostfrei Steels Pvt Ltd are some of the companies that will be showcasing cost-effective sustainable solutions at the concurrent environment expositions at the venue. Among other exhibitors, Central Pollution Control Board and Delhi Jal Board will also be present to discuss solutions for waste and wastewater management for Indian companies.
The event is part of Messe Frankfurt’s portfolio of environment technology fairs and is being strongly supported by Central Pollution Control Board, UN Habitat, the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), International Institute Of Waste Management,  Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council India, National Small Industries Corporation, International Institute for Sustainable Development, Carbon Minus India, Society of Energy Engineers Managers India, National Solid Waste Association of India as well as East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), Municipal Corporation Kanpur and Municipal Corporation Ludhiana.
