BJP today urged Lt Governor Kiran Bedi to order a detailed probe into the alleged illegal sale of government and poromboke lands in Puducherry by land sharks through fake documents.

The party's local unit President V Saminathan, in a release here alleged that a sprawling site 'Vanoli Thidal' in neighbouring Mudaliarpet belonging to the municipality had been 'grabbed by some individuals'.

It had been used in the past by various outfits, including political parties to conduct public meetings. The pedestal and podium constructed in 1950 was dismantled some days ago by miscreants who had encroached on the site, he alleged.

The then Mudaliarpet municipality was in charge of the site, where a radio programme was conducted daily to disseminate news on government schemes in keeping with the system introduced by the previous French government.

However, it was left unattanded by the municipality, particularly when there was no elected civic body, Saminatham said.
