Vitthal temple at Pandharpur closed for 'image' make-over

Solapur, Jan 14 (PTI) The famous Vitthal temple at Pandharpur in the district would remain closed for devotees for 12 days, as the Lord is set to get an `image' make-over. The temple will be closed from January 16 to 27 for `expoxy coating' of idols which had suffered a lot of damage due to perennial milk/curd `abhishek' (consecrations), said temple committee executive officer Babasaheb Beldar today. A team led by D Deglurkar would be carrying out the task, he added. Beldar said that this is the first time that the temple would remain out of bounds for devotees for 12 days. But the idol of Rukmini, the Lord's better half, would be open for `darshan', he said.
