RBI says

Steel & Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar says
-Steel sector is currently stressed
-Government is aware of steel sector worries, considering viable duty impositions
-Will consider Directorate General of Safeguards’ recommendation on safeguard duty
-Steel sector has huge exposure to banks, government working to resolve issues
-Government has approved District Mineral Fund (DMF)
-30 percent of royalty will be set aside for existing mining leases
-10 percent of royalty will be set aside for new mining leases
-Proceeds from district mineral fund will be utilised under Pradhan Mantri Mining Area Welfare Scheme (PMMAWS)

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley says

-To levy safeguard duty on steel imports
-To levy safeguards duty on steel imports as suggested by dg safeguards
-A provisional duty of 20 percent on select steel imports effective immediately
-20 percent provisional safeguard duty on select steel products for 200 days
-Have right to levy provisional duty pending enquiry of DG safeguards
-Overall inflation broadly under control, continuing its downward momentum


Finance ministry says
-Provisional safeguard duty of 20 percent levied on hot-rolled flat products of non-alloy
-Safeguard duty levied on other alloy steel in coils of width of 600 mm/more
