After keeping it unchanged for three consecutive years, the Uttar Pradesh government has hiked state advised price of sugarcane by 25 rupees per 100 kg for 2021-22 (OctSep). The hike comes ahead of the Assembly elections in 2022. India received 6.6 mm rainfall yesterday, 46% above the normal weighted average of 4.5 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department. The one-day 'Bharat Bandh' called by Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella organisation of farmers' union, failed to make an impact on trading in commodities in the major spot markets across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil 35 crop varieties developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on Tuesday to create mass awareness for the adoption of climate-resilient technologies. These include a drought-tolerant variety of chickpea, wilt, and sterility mosaic resistant pigeon pea, early maturing variety of soybean, disease-resistant varieties of rice, and biofortified varieties of wheat, pearl millet, maize and chickpea, quinoa, buckwheat, winged bean, and faba bean. These special traits crop varieties also include those that address the anti-nutritional factors found in some crops that adversely affect human and animal health.
