Car sales improve with advance purchases before the budget

CRISIL Research has come out with its view on car sales. According to the research firm, Diesel cars are being preferred over petrol variants as currently diesel is 36 per cent cheaper than petrol.

Domestic passenger car sales grew by around 8 per cent in February 2012 as against a decline of 1.2 per cent seen during the first ten months of 2011-12. The pick-up in sales can be attributed to consumers advancing their purchases pre-budget due to expectations of excise duty roll back and additional tax levy on diesel cars. Supply side issues were also resolved with normal production resumed at Maruti
