Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric on October 16 announced its entry into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) with the launch of Ola Shakti, a portable device that can be used to power ACs and refrigerators at home, water pumps at farms and business establishments.
The launch marks Ola’s expansion beyond mobility, into the broader clean energy ecosystem.
“We didn’t name the company Ola Auto; we named it Ola Electric, and our vision has always been to bring the whole energy storage supply chain into the market. Today, we are launching Ola Shakthi, which is the last-mile grid-complementing solution. We will offer power backup, solar storage, voltage stability and power portability,” Aggarwal said.
Available in four configurations, 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh, Ola Shakti is priced at Rs 29,999, Rs 55,999, Rs 1,19,999, and Rs 1,59,999, respectively for the first 10,000 units.
Pre-bookings have opened at Rs 999, with deliveries set to begin by Makar Sankranti 2026.
“Ola Shakti represents a fundamental shift in how Indians access, control, and consume energy, as a portable, on-demand resource designed for modern Indian households, farms, and businesses. With its entry into the BESS market, the company expects its annual consumption for BESS to scale up to 5 GWh in the next couple of year,” Aggarwal said.
According to the company, Ola Shakti integrates features such as instant power changeover, weatherproof IP67-rated batteries, and real-time monitoring through a connected app. It can power appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and pumps, offering up to 1.5 hours of backup at full load.
Ola Electric plans to leverage its existing gigafactory, 4680 cell technology, and nationwide store network to scale in the BESS market without additional capital expenditure.
“Our existing service centres and networks will be utilised for these energy storage solutions as well. Our network centres are constantly growing,” Aggarwal said.
The company is launching the products for the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment. A business-to-business (B2B) product is also in the making, Aggarwal said.
“B2B will be a container grid product, which we will launch later and this launch will largely be B2C. We expect the home energy market to grow, It will also have applications in commercial or small business as well. It can be stacked up as well to get 27 kwh as well. It can power a small community with it,” Aggarwal said.
