The Hyderabad Auto and Taxi Drivers Association on December 18 announced the launch of Yaary, a ride-hailing app built on the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) protocols, that will compete with ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber and Rapido.
Yaary onboarded more than 20,000 auto and taxi drivers in Hyderabad and was collaborating with various driver associations across numerous cities to launch similar mobility apps, the firm said in a statement.
“Yaary is building for the drivers with the drivers. It has been developed with the core belief that the drivers who power the ride-hailing ecosystem deserve the utmost respect, support, and fair compensation. The platform is designed to prioritize the welfare of drivers, ultimately providing top-tier experience & reliability to passengers," said Hari Prasadh, CEO & Cofounder, Yaary.
Similar to Bengaluru's Namma Yatri platform, ONDC-backed Yaary also promises to no levy any commission for drivers on its platform.
Yaary has been founded by digital public infrastructure veterans Hari Prasadh, Madhan Balasubramanian and Paritosh Verma. It is built using the established network standards as specified by ONDC, an initiative by the union commerce ministry and is based on the open-source BECKN protocol.

To join Yaary, auto or taxi drivers can download the Yaary Partner app from the Play Store, completing a KYC verification process.
Customers can download Yaary Ride on both Android and iOS devices, free of charge, via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
This comes just a week after Moneycontrol broke the news on Namma Yatri and the Auto Drivers Union in Bengaluru faced differences and parted ways. The tussle between Namma Yatri and the drivers' union threw the spotlight on "zero-commission" models.
Hyderabad's Yaary too promises zero commission levy for drivers.

"Yaary facilitates peer-to-peer transactions between customers and service providers (auto & taxi drivers) with 0% commission, charging only a nominal SaaS fee to service providers - 10 times less than traditional ride-hailing aggregators. This ensures a fair and transparent earnings model for
drivers," the statement said.
Yaary also provides drivers with flexible work schedules, a responsive support system, driver and family insurance, and legal consulting support - an industry first, the statement added.
