Artificial intelligence (AI) will replace some of the existing jobs, however, it will create more jobs in future as more and more sectors besides e-commerce such as retail and manufacturing will start to leverage from it, a top Amazon India executive said on Monday.
"There is the whole area of data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence. This is definitely going to be an important technology for the future. It is being used in many many industries right from e-commerce to finance to retail to manufacturing," Rajeev Rastogi, head of Artificial Learning, Amazon India said in an interaction with Moneycontrol.
Amazon, besides other e-commerce companies extensively use artificial intelligence or machine learning for forecasting demand, stocking adequate inventory, fraud detection and product search ranking etc.
However, with the rise in technology, there is a growing concern of job losses across several manual areas such as product delivery and assortment etc. While Rastogi denied any significant churn, he added that the employees will need to reskill themselves in the areas of data science and machine learning to grab the future job opportunities.
Predicting that AI will be heavily leveraged during this Diwali festival season as well, Rastogi said that the technology will be used to improve the customers' addresses.Amazon that begins its Great Indian Festival Sale, says that India has a unique challenge of inadequate or not well-formed delivery addresses which leads to failed deliveries.
"If you type in an address, we would flag it and say this doesn't look like a well formed address and needs to be fixed. We may suggest correction to improve the address. We are ranking the quality of addresses that people enter and it is a problem in India more than other countries just because our addresses not very well structured," Rastogi said. He however declined to comment on the percentage of returns caused due to incorrect addresses.

"We can determine the intent of the customer based on their browse pattern, their searched queries etc," he said."For people who are still researching you want to show them more reviews about product comparisons that will help them make up their mind but of course if customers have decided what products they are interested in buying then what you want to show them will be best deals on the product, different sellers and what prices they are offering etc," he added.
