Dream Sports, the parent company of fantasy sports major Dream11, has seen 75 percent of its total user base coming from geographies outside Tier I and Tier II cities as high-speed internet penetration is accelerating across India.
"One of the tailwinds that we have seen in the last few years apart from solid government policies is the “Jio Effect”. Around 850 million people are getting fast-speed internet...In fact, Dream11 has 75 percent of users coming from outside the top 100-115 cities in India. Outside Tier I and Tier II," said Harsh Jain, co-founder, and CEO of Dream Sports during a panel discussion at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit in New Delhi.
Talking about tailwinds, Jain added that the platform has seen 80 percent year-on-year growth in women gamers and newer technologies around 5G and satellite internet will be a big boost for India's next "techade".
"A couple of new technologies and platforms are pushing us forward, the standard point is AI. There is no discussion without the mention of AI. (With) 5G and satellite internet we will start seeing people having internet in the middle of nowhere. That’s going to keep us moving forward," he said.
Dream Sports houses brands such as sports content and commerce platform FanCode, sports experiences platform DreamSetGo, mobile game development unit Dream Game Studios, and its philanthropic arm Dream Sports Foundation, apart from the flagship fantasy platform.
The panel also had other startup entrepreneurs including Ritesh Agarwal, CEO of OYO Rooms, Virendra Gupta, founder and CEO of DailyHunt, and Upasana Taku, cofounder and CFO of Mobikwik.
In terms of tailwinds, Oyo's Ritesh Agarwal added that AI will be ''Advantage India".
"In AI we have engineers and product managers and we have good infrastructure and implementation is a big opportunity. India offers a huge market near the implementation," Agarwal added.
