Two years after Thane made the cut to receive Rs 1000 crore of government funding to transform itself, has it gotten any smarter?
Located 25 kilometres from the heart of Mumbai, Thane city has remained, quite literally, in the island city's shadow. So it came as a pleasant surprise when Thane was chosen as a smart city, ahead of capital cities like Bengaluru, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram. However two years after it made the cut to receive Rs 1000 crore of government funding to transform itself, has Thane gotten any smarter? As part of CNBC-TV18's smart cities report card series, Kevin Lee and Ashwini Priolker travelled to Thane to find out.
