In a significant display of Make in India's military capability, India successfully conducted Operation Sindoor while showcasing indigenous defense technology integration — and all this, without crossing the Line of Control or international border. The operation, launched after Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba's offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) killed 26 innocent people in Pahalgam on 22 April, demonstrated India's strategic shift toward technological self-reliance in national security operations. In a press note, the government called India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack, as "deliberate, precise, and strategic."
In the press note, the government also stated that Operation Sindoor marks India’s journey towards technological self-reliance in military operations in all spheres - including drone or electronic warfare and layered air defence.
Impenetrable air defence thwarted Pakistani attack
On the night of May 7 and 8, Pakistan attempted to target multiple military installations across Northern and Western India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. India's Integrated Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Grid and layered air defence systems successfully neutralized these threats.
The following morning, Indian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes on Pakistani air defense radars and systems, including neutralizing an air defence installation at Lahore.
Military officials confirmed the deployment of battle-proven air defence systems like Pechora, LLAD guns and OSA-AK, alongside indigenous platforms such as the Akash missile system, which demonstrated exceptional performance. Developed indigenously, the Akash system can simultaneously engage multiple targets while featuring advanced electronic counter-measures.
The government noted that India’s Air Defence Systems, along with Army, Navy, and primarily Air Force assets, performed with exceptional synergy among each other. These systems created an impenetrable wall, foiling multiple attempts by Pakistan to retaliate.
The Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) of the Indian Air Force brought all these elements together, providing the "net-centric operational capability" that is crucial vital for modern warfare.
The official release noted that India's defence manufacturing has reached unprecedented levels with indigenous production hitting Rs 1.27 lakh crore in FY 2023-24 and exports climbing to Rs 23,622 crore in FY 2024-25 — marking a 34-fold increase from 2013-14 levels.
Along with this, it stated that the government aims to increase defense exports to Rs 50,000 crore by 2029, and the target is to position India as the world's largest defense exporter by 2047. Authorities state that this growth has been aided by strategic reforms, private sector involvement, and robust Research and Development (R&D) leading to the development of advanced military platforms ranging from artillery systems to naval vessels.
Calling Operation Sindoor way more than a tactical success — it said the entire counter-attack validates India's defence indigenisation policies across domains.
