HDFC Mutual Fund enhanced its exposure in banking & financial services, utilities and automotive sectors, while slashed its coverage in engineering & capital goods, oil & gas and services sectors.
Jaiprakash Associates, NCC Blue Water Products and NHPC were the top buys, while NCC, Sun Pharmaceutical and GAIL India were the top sells by the fund.
A study of the HDFC Asset Management Fund portfolio for the month of March 2011 showed that in the banking & financial services space, it bought ICICI Bank, Rural Electrification Corporation and Punjab National Bank. However, it sold Motilal Oswal Financial Services and State Bank of India. The fund introduced LIC Housing Finance in the same space. (View - All Bulk Deals by Mutual Funds).
In the utilities segment, the fund purchased Power Grid Corporation, Tata Power Company and NTPC. The fund introduced NHPC in the space.
The fund bought Amtek Auto, Tata Motors (DVR) and Hero Honda Motors in automotive space. The fund sold Exide Industries, Mahindra and Mahindra and Tata Motors in this space.
In the engineering & capital goods pack, the fund sold Larsen & Toubro, Carborundum Universal and Texmaco Rail and exited from Suzlon Energy and Atlas Copco (India). However, it bought Crompton Greaves.
The fund sold Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Reliance Industries and GAIL India in the oil & gas space. But it bought Petronet LNG and Bharat Petroleum Corporation. (Check out - Which sectors are attracting Fund Managers?).
In services sector, the fund sold Jet Airways.
