Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services
The domestic market exhibited a recovery from today’s lows but remained in negative territory due to adverse global cues related to escalating global trade tensions. Nevertheless, the broader market outperformed, primarily driven by value buying opportunities in small-cap stocks. Currently domestic economic indicators are favourable while investors await clarity on global trades for a consistency in momentum.
Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking
Markets remained lackluster and ended marginally lower, extending the ongoing corrective phase. After an initial dip, Nifty gradually recovered, followed by a range-bound movement for the rest of the session. Sectoral trends were mixed, with energy, metal, and banking stocks gaining, while auto and IT sectors underperformed. A slight rebound in small-cap stocks improved market breadth, though mid-caps closed on a flat note.
Weak global cues continue to weigh on sentiment, but selective buying is limiting the downside. We maintain a cautious outlook on the index, with key support at the 21,800-22,000 zone. Among sectors, banking, financials, and metals are exhibiting relative strength, while others present a mixed trend. Traders should align their positions accordingly while managing risk with prudent position sizing.
Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities
Following a gap-down start, the Nifty remained bullish throughout the day. The index found support around 22,000 on a sustained basis. Though sentiment has not turned positive, there are signs that the index is finding support in the 21,800–22,000 zone.
In the short term, we might witness a recovery. However, a decisive fall below 21,800 could change the current equation.
Aditya Gaggar Director of Progressive Shares
Excessive pessimism and oversold conditions helped the Index recover quickly from its initial losses. The swift rebound in the Mid and Smallcap segments further pushed the Index higher, ultimately leading to a trade settlement at 22,082.65 with a loss of 36.65 points.
Among the sectors, Media and PSU Banks stood out as the top performers, while the Auto sector experienced the significant correction, followed by IT. The 22,000 level is expected to act as immediate support, with 22,260 seen as resistance. Additionally, formation of Bullish Engulfing candlestick pattern in the Mid and Smallcap segments suggests a potential trend reversal, indicating a shift in market sentiment.
Currency Check | Rupee closes higher
Indian rupee ended 9 paise higher at 87.27 per dollar on Tuesday versus Monday's close of 87.36.
Anuj Choudhary – Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan
Indian Rupee traded flat with a negative bias on weak tone in the domestic markets. FIIs continue to remain net sellers, which also weighed on the Rupee. However, weak US Dollar index and a sharp fall in crude oil prices cushioned the downside. US Dollar fell on the ongoing trade tariff concerns and disappointing economic data from US. ISM manufacturing PMI data fell to 50.3 in February vs 50.6 in January and forecast of a rise to 50.9.
We expect Rupee to trade with negative bias on account of weakness in the domestic markets and continued FII outflows. Uncertainty over the trade tariff issue may further pressurise the Rupee. However, weak crude oil prices and weak tone in the US Dollar may support the Rupee at lower levels. USDINR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 87.10 to Rs 87.60.
