Markets regulator Sebi has spent Rs 7 crore on investor awareness programme in the first nine months of the current fiscal, Parliament was informed today.
However, Rs 42 crore was allocated for such programmes in the current fiscal (2015-16).
In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said Sebi had spent Rs 26.42 crore in the past fiscal on several investor education programmes out of total allocation of Rs 44.41 crore.
The capital markets watchdog had utilised Rs 23.31 crore and Rs 16.91 crore in 2012-13 and 2013-14, respectively.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has conducted nearly 6,300 programmes during April-December period of the ongoing fiscal. It had initiated 8,443 investor education activities in the past financial year.
Sebi has been undertaking various activities for the protection of interest of investors which include conducting regional seminars and investor awareness programmes.
The regulator conducts various investor education and financial programmes in the country, covering all states and Union Territories. It intends to reach out to maximum people in target audience covering investors and potential investors in the country.
