Gold declines from six-week high

Mounting concern that global growth is faltering pummeled shares, emerging-market currencies and commodities last week, and the sell-off deepened.

Gold on Monday fell from a six-week high during a global retreat among commodities. Gold declined 0.4 percent to USD 1,155.75 an ounce. Silver also sank about 2 percent.

Mounting concern that global growth is faltering pummeled shares, emerging-market currencies and commodities last week, and the sell-off deepened.

Chinese shares tumbled by the most since 2007, stocks in Germany headed for a bear market and prices for raw materials sank to a 16-year low. The losses in gold come after a resurgence in optimism about the metal.

Prices last week rose the most since January and investors bought 8.3 metric tons through gold-backed funds, the biggest increase since February.
